Police arrested a suspect in New Bedford in connection with a shooting in Fall River earlier this week.

 

The shooting happened Tuesday night in the area of Cash and Jencks streets. Police said they were called to the area just before 11 p.m. and found the victim in a parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was brought to the hospital after being treated at the scene.

 

On Friday, Fall River police were notified by New Bedford police that a suspect in the shooting was seen in their city. Fall River detectives began surveilling the Coffin Avenue home while a search warrant was obtained, according to police.

 

Once police entered the building, several people tried to hide. The suspect, Bruno Darosa, 18, was arrested while trying to hide in the attic, police said.

 

Police also said they found Smith & Wesson .380-caliber firearm with a laser attachment and a loaded eight-round magazine discarded in a toilet. The gun didn’t have a serial number, according to police.

 

Darosa was taken to the hospital for treatment before he was booked at Fall River police headquarters. He’s charged with assault and battery with a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, vandalizing property, breaking and entering a vehicle at nighttime with intent to commit a felony, larceny under $1,200, and larceny of a credit card.
