A Fairhaven man and his two daughters are without a home after a fire tore through it Saturday evening.

Fairhaven Fire Chief Todd Correia told 12 News firefighters rushed to the Main Street home around 5 p.m. after receiving several 911 calls.

Correia said it took firefighters about an hour and a half to knock down the flames. He added that the fire is believed to have started on the first floor.

No one was home at the time. Correia said the family’s dog and cat died in the fire.

The house has been deemed a total loss and the residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross, according to Correia.

The cause remains under investigation, however, Correia said it appears to be accidental in nature.
