A 32-year-old man from Westerly suffered serious injuries after a crash on the Braga Bridge Saturday afternoon, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

 

The DA’s office said the man drove a motorcycle onto the bridge traveling eastbound at 12:38 p.m. While on the bridge, he turned the motorcycle around and began driving into oncoming traffic.

 

Shortly afterwards, he struck a Massachusetts State Police cruiser, as well as a second vehicle, before fleeing the scene on foot. He then entered I-195 West, where he was hit by a car, according to the DA’s office.

 

The DA’s office said the man was brought to Rhode Island Hospital with significant injuries.

 

The crash, which closed down the eastbound side of the Braga Bridge for several hours, remains under investigation.
